I have been working hard at debunking claims that the bible is somehow against homosexuality or abortion. Fortunately, our God is remarkably tolerant, merciful and loving, and made certain explicit claims in the bible on what is INtolerable vs what He seems to not be angered by. These answers might be surprising to many. They should not be misread as my saying that God is against wanted or preordained pregnancy. But, surprisingly, God is about as tolerant towards terminating an unwanted or unaffordable pregnancy, as he even is about having sex with a spouse!! Whats funny, is that God also encourages chastity (and occassional sex) even in married people. The reason for this, is that marriage itself is seen as a distraction from worshipping God. It just makes it easier for God to no longer be the #1 priority, when we are so concerned with the health of our marriages. Obviously God is not anti marriage, either. He just loves us so much, and is willing to make compromises, for our happiness. Its… complicated. Thats why I needed to post this.

SEX: Yeah lets address the first elephant in the room.. Look, God prefers us to stay single and remain virgins. Even in marriage, we are supposed to abstain for a while, at a time, in order to keep God at the forefront of our minds and hearts. Its not that God is anti-sex. He explicitly tells us how to (best) have sex, and best practices in how not to have sex.. This whole subject has been, as of late, confused and perverted by a certain Jewish, gay, trans, disabled, women and children, and elderly non German, exterminating German S.S. that rewrote certain passages in the bible that Scripturally, in Hebrew and Greek, explicitly say we are not to have sex with children. Each and every time the word “homosexual” is used, it is a new writing, simply being overgeneralized, over a verse that says “a man must not lay with young men.” Pedophilia, and pedastery is DEFINITELY not okay with God. That doesnt say that gay people cant love one another. Theres a verse that Scripture reads as “Man should not lay with mankind as they do with their wives,” also. This verse also is perverted and recently rewritten in a way that is meant to confuse Christians. To be clear, Scripture does NOT SAY that man must not lie with MAN..It says man must not lie with mankind as they do with woman/ their wives. So, what does that even MEAN? We take that verse as a whole, instead of trying to look too narrowly at it. It is TRUE that men (and women) should not be going around and sleeping with whomever they want. That is the learning objective to that scripture. We just shouldnt be promiscuous. Pretty simple.

Technically, the idea of seducing someone to have sex with them, and not marrying them, is not the best move, but there are allowances made. God says as long as the seducer pays the dowry (the bride price) then thats, by the looks of things, his atonement. Premarital sex with someone you wont marry, requires you to pay restitution. Its not allowed, per se, but there is an atonement made for it, and it’s civil and financial in nature.

There are also numerous verses in the bible where concubines are mentioned. It should be noted, that concubines were once-enslaved women whose masters (with their wife’s okay) married them as a second wife. This is not the same thing or concept as polygamy. It was simply a means of having a maternal surrogate, to have more children. More children, in those days, was seen as a sign of wealth and status, so many people (including slaves turned concubines) would gladly go to great lengths to make as many babies as possible. Concubines were supposed to be treated as equals to wives, and not neglected. If a concubine was neglected, she could leave her husband and go free, without oweing him any restitution. This is arguably true about his original wife also, considering that the bible explicitly states that the former slave, turned wife, is considered an equal to his original wife. Women do not have to stay stuck in neglectful marriages. God grants us allowances. God is Wonderful.

This brings us to the subject of baby making, and also, not making babies. The subject of abortion can be a sensitive one, but the bible is clear, that these decisions are physically made between a woman, her husband, and their abortionist.

But first, lets do a quick bible study on when God defines the beginning of life. And no, its not conception.

In Genesis 2:7, and Ezekiel 37, we can see that life ALWAYS begins when God breathes “the breath of life” into our nostrils. This breath is delivered via God by “the wind.”

There are a couple of instances where the bible celebrates life in the womb, also. These verses are talking about predestined Kings, baptisers of men- Jesus and John. These verses that discuss what is happening is more of a way of explaining that Jesus, conceived by God and Mary, had a VERY special immaculate conception. His conception is the only one of its kind. See, Adam was a true God child- conceived with cosmic elements by God, only. No human DNA to be passed along. Since Adam and Eve had no human parents, their original sin, was also divine in its very nature, based on their divine creations that did not involve a human. Thus, humankind then proceeded to create humans who sinned, creating the ultimate challenge for God, who then needed to create a unique ManGod cross breed of sorts. Hence, Jesus (Immanuel) was conceived by a pact between God and the Virginal Mary. A huge gift to mankind, Jesus would eventually be crucified and die, and he would also show that God overcame the powers of death, thereby saving not only human born humans, but also two God humans and Gods only begotten son. Amazing. And actually, sciencey, but I will get into that at some other time.

ABORTION! Oh so many wish God thought of abortion as an abomination..but fear not. He doesnt at all. Its another allowance. Exodus 21 makes this abundantly clear. In this chapter, the bible says that if men “strife” or fight, aka get violent or harsh, and cause a pregnant woman to miscarry (literally, saying that this man could be causing her to miscarry on purpose- as an abortionist- or that there are men fighting who cause a woman to miscarry on accident) that her husband MUST sue the man for whatever amount of financial compensation, he deems worthy. If the fighting men/ abortionist harms his wife, then they need to match her injuries to their own. If she dies, they die. If they knock out a tooth, they lose a tooth. Etc.

And lets go ahead and explore the financial compensation issue here. The verse actually says “He MUST PAY” whatever the husband takes him to court and sues him for. It does NOT say the husband must sue him for the loss. Only if it was a WANTED pregnancy, would this be a loss, at all. The general allowance made here, beyond abortion, is “Whatever you do, just don’t harm the woman!!!”

In Ecclesiastes 6, there is a whole lot said about having too many babies, while trying to keep up with the Joneses. God is conveying that while it might seem better to have more kids, its unnecessary, especially if you dont get to have a good life because you are too busy working to feed them all.. In fact, Ecclesiastes 6 specifically says that the miscarriage is better off than the man with too many children. God also really doesnt want us to have a gadzooks number of kids in vain.. To him, even this is an abomination. He loves us and wants us to enjoy being alive. He wants us to be able to afford a funeral also. He really doesnt want us to be destitute.

God makes so many allowances for us, because He loves us and wants us to enjoy our God given lives. Lets just stop and thank Him for being a Wonderful, Awesome God. AMEN!
